Project BluEdea: Mangrove restoration in Cameroon

Afforestation and Reforestation (ARR) project in Edea Douala Park, Cameroon
Join Apolownia in a comprehensive coastal ecosystem restoration initiative in Cameroon, near the city of Douala. This project, spread over 40 years, will restore 3,000 hectares of mangrove ecosystems in the Edea Douala national park, enhance ecological resilience, and support the socio-economic development of local communities.
Located in one of the world’s most biodiverse coastal regions, the Edea mangroves are home to key species such as Rhizophora, Avicennia, and numerous fish and bird species but also apes and elephants. These ecosystems play a crucial role in maintaining coastal protection and mitigating climate change.
The project will directly engage over 20,000 local inhabitants, empowering them to participate in restoration efforts and reduce pressure on natural resources. By adhering to Verra’s VCS-VM0033 certification standard, we aim to sequester a total of 2,500,000 tonnes of CO2e over the course of 40 years.
With 56% of the original forest still intact, the project offers a strong foundation for effective restoration and biodiversity conservation. In addition to carbon sequestration, the project contributes to SDGs related to environmental sustainability, community resilience, and economic growth.
